The Best Restaurants in Los Cabos: What the Locals Actually Recommend

The Best Restaurants in Los Cabos: What the Locals Actually Recommend

Los Cabos has a food scene disproportionately good for its size. Several restaurants here rank among the best in Mexico. The challenge is separating the genuinely excellent from the tourist-facing operations that trade on views and location.

These are the places worth your dinner reservations.

Cabo San Lucas: Marina and Medano Beach Area

Manta at The Cape (a Thompson Hotel) runs a Pan-Pacific kitchen that consistently executes. The ceviche and the grilled fish tacos are the anchors; the cocktail program is serious. Reservations are required for dinner and fill up fast on weekends.

El Farallon at the Waldorf Astoria is a different kind of meal — the restaurant is built into a cliff face above the Pacific, and the seafood is brought in daily. It's one of the more theatrical dining experiences in all of Mexico. The price point is high. The experience matches it.

For something less ceremonial, Edith's has been a reliable Cabo San Lucas institution for years. The tableside guacamole, the Caesar salad prepared at the table, and the mesquite-grilled proteins are all worth ordering. It draws a mix of locals and guests who know enough not to eat exclusively at resort restaurants.

San José del Cabo: The Art District

Flora Farms is about 10 minutes from downtown San José, up in the hills behind the town. It's a working organic farm with a full restaurant and a cook school. The menu changes with what's growing. Lunch is more casual; dinner is more composed. The farm-to-table concept isn't a marketing line here — you walk through the gardens on the way to your table.

Don Sanchez in the downtown art district is the anchor of the Thursday art walk crowd and worth visiting any night. The building is a colonial house; the kitchen is contemporary Mexican. Book ahead for Thursday evenings.

La Panga Antigua, also in the art district, is smaller and less anticipated by visitors. The seafood preparation is technically precise and the wine list is thoughtful. It consistently gets overlooked in favor of more prominent names and consistently outperforms expectations.

The Corridor

The 20-mile corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo has several resort restaurants worth seeking out even if you're not staying at the property.

Cocina del Mar at Esperanza (Auberge Resorts) runs a dinner service built around Baja coastal ingredients with an ocean terrace that faces the Sea of Cortez. The produce comes largely from local farms.

Nick-San in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo has two locations. The Japanese-Mexican fusion started here before it became a concept trend — their tuna tostadas and the maki rolls with Baja fish are the reason people come back.

Practical notes

Most fine dining in Los Cabos requires reservations, particularly on Thursday (art walk night in San José) and weekends year-round. December through March is high season — book 2–3 weeks ahead for top-tier restaurants.

For guests staying in Palmilla, the art district restaurants in San José are a 10–15 minute drive. The One&Only Palmilla has its own kitchen but the San José options are worth the trip at least once during a stay.
