The Best Time to Visit Los Cabos, Month by Month

The Best Time to Visit Los Cabos, Month by Month

Los Cabos has about 350 days of sun per year. That makes the "best time" question less about weather than about what else matters: crowds, cost, marine life, and which activities are in season.

Here's an honest month-by-month breakdown.

November through April: High Season

This is when most Americans and Canadians visit. The weather is consistently 75–85°F with low humidity. The Sea of Cortez is calm and warm. Whale season runs December through March.

The tradeoffs: prices are highest December through March, holiday week (Dec 26–Jan 1) is fully booked early, and popular restaurants require reservations. Spring break weeks (mid-March) add a different crowd to Cabo San Lucas specifically.

For beach-first travelers, January and February are arguably the best months — the weather is ideal, the Sea of Cortez is swimmable, and whale sightings are at their peak.

May and June: Shoulder Season

Temperatures start climbing (85–92°F), humidity increases slightly, but crowds drop significantly and prices follow. May is genuinely underrated — the peak season crowds are gone, the water is warm, and most services are still running at full capacity.

The marine life shifts in May and June. Whale season ends but whale shark season begins in the Sea of Cortez near La Paz (2 hours north). Manta rays become common. Sport fishing picks up.

July through September: Hot Season

Temperatures hit 95–100°F with higher humidity. Afternoon rains are possible, particularly in August and September. Hurricane risk is technically in this window, though direct hits on Los Cabos are historically rare — the geography diverts most systems.

Prices are at their lowest. Travelers who can manage heat get the best rates and the smallest crowds. The Pacific surf is at its best in summer months. Turtle nesting season is July through October on Pacific beaches.

October: Transition

October is a mixed bag. Early October can still be humid and warm; by late October the air quality shifts and the weather starts behaving like high season. Prices start climbing in the second half.

Summary by trip type

Best for beach and weather: January–February Best value: May, June, early October Best for whale watching: January–March Best for surf: July–September (Pacific side) Best for whale sharks (day trip to La Paz): May–June Avoid if possible: July–August heat and humidity
