Golf Trip to Los Cabos: Courses, Communities, and Where to Stay

Golf Trip to Los Cabos: Courses, Communities, and Where to Stay

Los Cabos has nine championship-caliber golf courses within a 30-mile stretch. That density — combined with year-round playable weather and rental properties with private pools for the evenings — makes it one of the most efficient golf destinations in North America.

Most golf trips to Cabo play 3–4 rounds in 5–6 days. The challenge is deciding which courses, and where to base the group.

The courses

Quivira Golf Club is the strongest argument for staying on the Pacific side. The Jack Nicklaus Signature course uses the dramatic Pacific cliffscape as terrain — several holes play along the edge of bluffs 200 feet above the ocean. It's technically demanding and visually unlike anything in North America. Current green fees run $280–380, which is high but comparable to top-tier US courses.

Cabo del Sol (Ocean Course) is the other true destination course. Tom Weiskopf designed the layout around the Sea of Cortez coast; the finishing holes play along the water. It's among the most photographed finishing sequences in the world. Green fees: $220–320.

Palmilla Golf Club (27 holes, Jack Nicklaus) is more accessible price-wise ($180–250) and plays through desert arroyos and sea-view terrain. It's the right pick for the group that wants high quality without Quivira or Cabo del Sol prices.

Cabo Real, Puerto Los Cabos (Robert Trent Jones II), and Chileno Bay (Tiger Woods Design) round out the premium tier. Groups doing four rounds commonly combine Quivira, Cabo del Sol, Palmilla, and one of the others.

Where to stay for a golf trip

Copala at Quivira is the strongest base for golf-focused groups. The community sits within the Quivira resort and provides direct access to Quivira Golf Club — walk out the property gate and you're on the course. The Copala condos have the pool and terrace setup that works well for group trips.

Palmilla is the alternative for groups focused on the San José side courses. The residential homes around the One&Only Palmilla give golf-trip-specific advantages: proximity to Palmilla Golf Club, access to Cabo del Sol (20 minutes east), and a quieter base than Cabo San Lucas.

Practical notes

Book tee times 3–4 weeks ahead during October through April (prime golf season). December and January in particular book up fast.

Most courses in Los Cabos include cart in the fee. Caddies are available at premium courses and are typically worth the $50–80 tip for groups unfamiliar with the course.

Club rentals are available at every course but the quality varies. Serious golfers who travel without clubs tend to rent at Quivira or Cabo del Sol where the rental sets are better maintained.
